Programmes for kids (see below for preschool programmes)

  • Intended to develop the habit of reading for a lifetime
  • Free with valid Bracebridge library card

Read to Succeed

  • Grade four students participate in class visits, a library tour, book talks and library themed game
  • Registration for library card, incentives for reading books, encouraged to use library on their own time

Forest of Reading

  • Read from the Ontario Library Association's selected book list of Canadian authors and encouraged to vote for their favourites
  • Reading levels divided into Blue Spruce (grade K-3), Silver Birch (grade 4-6) and Red Maple (grade 7-8)

Readopoly

  • Library version of the popular board game Monopoly
  • Self-paced game that encourages children to read books on a wide variety of subjects

Youth Book Club

  • all grade 7 and grade 8 students are welcome
  • read selected book at your own pace and meet for a fun book talk pizza party

Paws to Read

  • partnership with certified therapy dogs to provide canine-reading buddies
  • increase enthusiasm for reading, improve reading skills and promote confidence

  • Comprehensive juvenile reference books

Preschool programmes

  • Intended to encourage and develop a love of reading
  • Free with limited space, registration required
  • Sessions offered from September to June, with special programmes offered in the summer months

One-derful         Monday at 9:30am

  • Relaxed, fun and supportive environment
  • Read simple board books, learn songs, rhymes and bounces

Tales for Twos   Wednesday & Thursday at 9:30am

  • Initiate the joy of reading with picture books, pop-ups and feltboard stories
  • Fun interaction with songs, finger rhymes and musical shakers

Story Hour          Wednesday & Thursday at 10:30am

  • One hour programme for active three to five year olds
  • Read stories, sing songs, action rhymes and a simple craft

Preschool resources

  • Board books for babies and toddlers
  • Up-to-date parenting books
  • Great selection of picture books
